"UK Governmental Policies"
PM Dennis Brandt
Prime Minister
The next few days had been a buzz of activity, different proposals,
things were being drafted up as they spoke.
Dennis' cabinet was sitting around as the Times headline which started
Queen summons new Parliment, and the Guardian's headline included a
countdown till the next election.
"Typical Guardian...." Dennis tossed the paper in the pile, "Ok, what's
on the agenda."
"The United States, we should not be arguing with the US, especially
over some thug who murdered shopkeeper in the course of a robbery, then
a Texas Ranger during the escape. When we last checked the trial he had
excellent council, and was given multiple appeals, the government had
threatened to withdraw ambassadors over that execution, then over
poverty, then some shooting of a tourist in Florida, plus the
instability." This was Francis Urquart, foreign secretary who brought
seniority and leadership to the government and had acted as sort of a
mentor figure.
"What should we do?"
"Well first off, ignore the execution of Mcgreggor, it's old news, the
US probably doesn't remember and we should just ignore it, in a past
time he'd be fruit of the tyburn tree anyway. Second, US courts have
caught the killers of the tourists and they're in prison for life, so
let that go too. As for items like poverty, inequal wage gaps, we are
not a socialist country so ignore them as well. Generally just assure
the US, this is the government, and we speak for it."
Dennis nodded, "The main thing is our economy is in the shithouse and
hasn't improved This hasn't helped but what do we recommend."
That was his Chancellor of the Exchequer's cue to speak up. "First thing
is we need jobs, our shipbuilding has been stagnated, but building ships
for the Navy can help add jobs. Second we have industries be them the
UK and they used to be world leaders, why not bring them back? Not Just
Rolls Royce, Webley arms, Saville row, even build something just for
export, encourage people to look at British products again. Plus tax
cuts for research and development or building new factories."
Dennis nodded, "Now defense?"
The head of the Ministry of defense spoke up, "Where to begin, First of
all, the budget has been cut, and has not kept up with inflation, and
wages have been frozen since 2009 So we have paid LESS then people can
live on. That has really stifled recruiting and several of the recruit
classes have had various elements of criminality, several soldiers have
been arrested for crimes ranging from robbery to homicide."
Dennis nodded and winced, "So you need more money, recruiting and weed
out the bad eggs."
Before he could continue the Defense minister interrupted, "It's not
just that... we need leaders. Training, discipline. Also equipment,
take a look at what we have, and what needs to be updated, we need to
make sure that if we have to send soldiers in to harms way they have the
best equipment and the best training."
Dennis nodded, "Agreed Michael, they get the best that we have to offer
and we recruit the best."
Actions:
1) Patch up relations with the US.
2) rebuild the economy, churn for jobs,
3) Begin advertising British quality products,
4) Increase defense budget, begin weeding out criminal recruits, work
with US on improving NCO and Officer Cadre
