Re: Your possible forward deployment

Dear Prime Minister Decker,
Please allow me to extend my condolences toward your situation regarding the
attacks in Sydney. Our situations are not unlike each other. I am writing
this letter to ask you a couple of things. First of all, what are the dates
of your impending visit to Canada, exactly? My staff are also planning
various activities, as there are many things we could do. A get-a-away
ranging from the west coast, to the rockies, to the prairies, the north, the
maritimes, or even remaining in the Ottawa area are all possible. Please
let me know what you wish to do.
The other issue I wish to bring up is regarding your possible forward
deployment of troops into Iran. Please allow me to be blunt on this one.
Iran may be a nation hurting from international pressure and a trade
embargo, but do not underestimate its military capability. By deploying
Australian forces alone to face Iran you will be risking both your own men
and women, and our Allied mission as a whole. Australia does not alone
possess the capability to defeat Iran in a straight fight, as does not
Canada. Allow your own forces to consolidate with NATO and coordinate
tightly, both to reduce casualties, increase efficiency, and reduce the risk
to your own personnel.
I know we are all emotional, stressed, and exhausted from dealing with
recent events. You are not alone in this regard. Please do not attempt
foolhardy action.
My best regards,
James McColl,
Prime Minister of Canada
