WNN - Tokyo, Japan - Ayame Ishikawa, Japan's Minister of State for Families 
and the Population, announced that the second Monday of August will become 
Japan's fifteenth national holiday: Family Day. In her press conference the 
Minister explained that the government hopes that the Japanese people will 
use the long weekend to spend time with their families and 'strengthen the 
bonds between generations that have been one of Japan's greatest strengths'. 
Additionally the government will hosting a celebration outside the Diet 
Building during the new holiday, and hopes that local governments and 
companies will follow their example.

This announcement is the said to be the first of many in what Minister 
Ishikawa called the Summer of the Family. The content of the future 
announcements are as yet unknown, however sources indicate a new tax cut for 
families may be among them.


Actions:

1>	Kick off the Summer of the Family
2>	Declare a new national holiday on the second Monday of August (to create 
a three day weekend for those with a five day work week, as per the Happy 
Monday System [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Happy_Monday_System])
3>	Hold a celebration for families out front of the Diet buildings (targeted 
for Japanese extended families, parents, grandparents, and children) and 
encourage companies and local governments to do the same for their employees 
and citizens.
