While the International Community approves of decisive Japanese action
in regards to the situation in the Caucasus, the Japanese themselves
seem eager for an explanation...and some convincing as to how this is
in their interest. Whether a speech should be expected on the issue,
nobody knows - there is simply no precedent.

CANADA

Government Approval: 40%

Economic Growth: 2.5%

Consumers allow for a general 'ewww!' at the idea of Canadian Cattle
Brains in their food, and thus applaud the government's actions in
that regard. Easy winner, sad nothing else is so easy. Say, the
contribution to AZFOR. Frankly, the Canadian commitment is tiny -
while the populace doesn't mind it, the armed forces are getting a
heck of an inferiority complex given how little they can contribute.
Word has it that it took a bit before Canadian commanders stopped
beginning every conversation with their allies with some variation on
"Sorry we couldn't send more".

FRANCE

The exit of the recently-created Baron Brandt of Merseyside and the
entry of the Young Ministry is greeted with some anxiety, but only in
the sense that new things are always nervous to watch.

The Battle Group led by the HMS Queen Elizabeth "chops" to NATO
command as it transits Gibraltar, and the military awaits what seem to
be inevitable further orders.

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

The Williams Administration's war footing has been met with equal parts
support, even from some surprising quarters, and protest.

THe Unitarian Universalist Coalition has voted to support Williams but
hoping that diplomacy and peace prevails in the end, but acknowledge
that "if Iran insists on actions against a peaceful neighbor, then
force, regrettably, must be used."

Congress has begun debate on an authorization for the use of force
against Iran it's surprising to see Democrats and Republicans speaking
together for something, though there are concerns about the duration and
impact.

In the UN the debate has begun, it seems to be moving towards approval,
though several of the Middle Eastern states are concerned that this
might broaden to hit them.

the Council for American Islamic Relations has issued a statement
calling on Williams to use 'restraint' against Iran and hopes this will
not be another Iraq situation.

Protestors have cropped up, Code Pink and several other anti war groups
have been protesting outside the White House with their usual 'no blood
for oil' placards, though the protests do not draw as many celebs,
because let's face it it's Iran, who the hell likes Iran?

CHICAGO (AP): Richard M Daley, Mayor of Chicago has died of a massive
heart attac, city officials report. Chicago Fire Department Paramedics
were called to the Daley Residence on South Indiana ave by officers on
the Mayor's protective Detail. Paramedics attempted CPR on scene and
the Mayor was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he was
pronounced dead on Arrival.

City Council President Edward M Burke was sworn in as acting mayor.
Daley's funeral will be held at Holy Name Cathedral with Francis
Cardinal George Presiding.

Albuquerque (AP): Protestors calling themselves the Knights of Liberty
attempted to raid the armory at Kirtland Air Force base.

Suspects were arrested by members of the Albuquerque Police Department
during a routine traffic stop in the Old Town neighborhood. During the
stop officers found an M-4 carbine hidden under some blankets. Suspects
were turned over to the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and
Explosives for prosecution under Federal Firearms laws.

Another suspect was arrested attempting to sell an MP-5 to a local gun
dealer who notified federal officals. Defense officials have no comment
how they were able to make off with over 30 M-4 carbines, 30 M-9
pistols, and 10 MP-5 submachine guns from the secured armory. The Air
Force is investigating.

ECONOMIC INDICATORS

NOTE: Initial indicators were gleaned from as recent sources as
possible, for the most recent term possible (annualized). In some

speaking nations' data is more or less right from the source.

dangerous pace with little end in sight.

Recession: Economic forces retracting, but more shallow than
Depression and more controlably. Sometimes necessary and part of
regular economic trends, although prelonged.

Revision: Economic forces retracting slightly and short term,
associated with economic systems refitting to accomodate new
industries, concentrations, etc.

Zero: No movement one way or the other.
Low: Comparatively low Economic growth/activity. (miniscule to about
2%, depending)
Good: Average economic activity (ranging from 2%-5% normally)
High: Above average performance (Greater than 5%) Sometimes
dangerous if in excess of 8% continuously.
