"In Response"
Prime Minister Shunichi Sato
Japan
June 15 2014
Since the Prime Minister had expanded the Georgia peacekeeping initiative to 2000 men and began the boycott of Iranian petroleum products the Japanese people seemed to waiting for one thing, why; inevitably it was the LDP the loyal opposition that voiced that question on the floor of the Diet.
"Would the Prime Minister please explain why Japan is asking two-thousand of its sons and daughters to go into danger? Respectfully, we find this lack of explanation to be insulting to our troops and this body, and Japan," the Defence Critic Hideo Iwamura asked from his place on the diet floor.
Sato, rose to his feet, nodding to the speaker. "In response to Iwamura-san's question, I would think the why is obvious, however as the opposition requires explanation, I shall of course grant them that," Sato cleared his throat as a few of the other ministers shifted in their seats. There was no doubt their boss was in a bit of a grumpy mood in late, though this was the first time that it had manifested on the floor of the Diet.
Sato continued. "Iran's expansionist policies must be stopped. The international community has examined their causes for war, the supposed Kurdish camps, and found them wanting. It is therefore clear that the war is about oil, the single most valuable commodity on the planet, and one vital for Japanese survival. Already we have seen fuel prices skyrocket in this country, bringing with it a spike in the price of everything else. Our people cannot afford for this to continue. So if Iran is not stopped in Azerbaijan then what will stop them from blockading the Straight of Hormuz next and blocking the flow of billions of barrels of oil to Japan and the rest of the world? I admit, that as lofty ideals go, a war for oil is a poor excuse, however, in the end if the Iranians are not stopped today, the stability of the whole world may suffer, and for that, Japan, a nation now dedicated to peace, must act, or our talk of peace enshrined in our constitution is nothing more than words."
Sato paused seeming to gather his thoughts and remember where he was, and what the protocols were.
"I would also like to respectfully remind the opposition, that we are not sending these men to war, but we are sending them to keep the peace in a region disrupted by the Iranians, and filling the places of our allies who will carry the war to Iran. As that is all that has been authorized by this body, except for the naval contribution, which may indeed see fighting, made legal by the vote of the Diet, so, I ask, Mr. Speaker, what is unclear and if I may, how was the opposition, our troops, or this body insulted by assuming they had the wits to discern this for themselves. Thank you."
