It was a brutally hot day in Washington. Not for nothing, then, were
the detectives of the MPD, as well as FBI technicians, working even
more expeditiously than the situation demanded - the heat would pose
problems in maintaining evidence, especially DNA evidence.

As he walked the site with Congressional Leaders, then, President
Williams looked about with a sharp eye.

"What are you saying the casings were?" He asked the DC Police Chief.

"7.62x39, sir. Warsaw Pact."

"Consistent with an AK-47."

"Yes sir. The guy we're holding probably saved a lot of people today."

"No doubt. Was damn good shooting, I'm told, too."

"How should we handle him?"

"No special handling I can think of. FBI may want to chat with him, of course."

"Understood, Mr. President."

"That said, if he is in fact nominated by MPD for the Public Safety
Medal of Valor, we'll consider the request expeditiously."

"I understand."

<President's Room, Capitol>

"Okay folks, what do we know?" Williams asked the intel community.

DNI spoke up. "The Canadians got lucky, nailed some guys in Toronto
who seem connected into all of this.

"We're looking for smoking guns, and appear to have found some -
weapons, ammo, data, hardcopy papers, all pointing the Canadian ops to
be of Iranian origin.

"We're expediting the ballistics from the shooting here, and the
forensics from the bombings in Chicago and LA, see if we can pull up
any connections."

"Search warrants?"

"Being executed as we speak," the FBI director noted. "We're taking
sledgehammers to walls if need be."

"Good; we'll reimburse the landlords," Williams said.

"You know your jobs. Do them. My orders: Follow the evidence. If
there's anything that points to a connection to the other incidents of
today, in the US or elsewhere, let me know. If *anything* connects the
US incidents to Iran, I want to know immediately. Late night phone
calls included.

"If there's enough evidence for an indictment, there will be enough
evidence for a declaration of war. Bill," John motioned to his Chief
of Staff, "advise Congress of that."

"In the meantime, security condition will be THREATCON CHARLIE
nationwide for 24 hours - we step it back down to normal over the next
week. I doubt the Iranians will try that again.

"Let's be about it."

Actions:
1. As above.
2. If there's enough evidence for a grand jury indictment of Iranian
personnel, there's enough evidence for a declaration of war against
Iran.
3. Ask Congress for that Declaration.
4. Ask NATO to declare the attacks against NATO members applicable
under Article V.
5. Visit the grieving and the wounded.
