[War] Australia: Sydney Bombing

Prime Minister Jack Decker

Decker was in a meeting, his first of the day. He was being walked through what Sharon Janes and her people at the Education Department had come up with  to try and resolve the tertiary education issues that Decker had run on.

"In an ideal world, we'd throw back to free university for everyone, but we're so far past there by now, we've got to help in other ways..." Decker was saying when he saw the door open, and Lucas was waving for his attention. "Excuse me." He said, rising, and walking over to Lucas. "What's going on?"

Lucas spoke quietly. "There's been an explosion in Sydney."

Decker's head snapped up. "What?"

"Early reports say that a suicide bomber walked into the ferry terminal at Circular Quay, as most people were going to work."

"Casualties?"

"Believed to be fifteen dead, several injured."

"Damn." Decker turned. "Umm, Sharon, we'll have to reschedule. Something's come up."

"Oh, ok..." Her staff filed out, and Sharon came over. "What is it?"

"There's been a bombing in Sydney."

"Are you serious?"

Decker turned to Lucas. "I want the Attorney General in here, as well as someone from the Federal Police.

"It gets worse." Lucas said.

"What?"

"There were attacks in Chicago, LA, Washington DC, Montreal, Beijing, Karachi and London. The Mounties also stopped one in Toronto."

Decker leaned against the door frame and crossed his arms across his chest. "Oh God."

"The Americans are working a lot faster then us..."

"Because they've had terrorist attacks before and we haven't really?" Decker offered, and Lucas nodded.

"Apparently the Mounties got a helluva lot of intelligence."

"Tell DFAT to give the US, Canadian, UK and Chinese embassies a call." Decker said. "Get the AG, Ministers of Defence and Foreign Affairs, AFP, ASIS, ASIO, and activate the Crisis Response Group. Get me ten minutes on the phone with the Premier too."

*TWO HOURS LATER*

The Commissioner of the Australian Federal Police re-entered the meeting room after taking a phone call. "I finally got through to the Americans." He said as he slipped back into his seat. "Mr. Prime Minister, they found a mother-load in Canada. Weapons, laptops, explosives, all linked to, drum-roll please, the Iranians."

Decker's jaw clenched. "What?"

"Iranian military equipment."

"Jesus Christ..." Foreign Affairs Minister Joanna Griffin said quietly.

"Well, this answers the Azerbaijan question." King growled.

"In other news," Attorney General James Dunn said, looking at his notes, "preliminary analysis by the New South Wales Police shows that the explosion was caused by your standard suicide-bomber vest, plastic explosives and nails, the deaths were caused primarily by the shrapnel. The explosives were Semtex. Lucky enough for us the Canadians bagged those guys in Toronto, otherwise we'd be a bit lost. Semtex is far too common."

"Ok." Decker said with a nod. "I want a chopper here to fly me to Sydney ASAP. How many were injured?"

"Twenty-three, ranging from flash burns to shrapnel wounds."

"Ok. Send our information to the Legal Attaches at the respective embassies."

"Yes sir."
