"This and That"
Prime Minister Elena Rodriguez
Spain
16th August 2014
"Are you sure that's the wisest course of action?"
Elena had not expected her defence advisor to be particularly happy with the
majority decision that had been taken regarding the Iran/Azerbaijan
situation. Although they had committed to the mission and NATO may have
other plans for their members, Spain was in the non-proliferation and
arms-reducing camp. Where she had sat quite happily with Romania until
rather recent and rather abrupt events appeared to have left Spain out on a
limb and looking for new chums. So the decision to withdraw mainstream
military from the Caucasus shouldn't have come as a surprise.
"It's the 'right' course of action as far as this government is concerned,
so it is what must happen." She could see further objections about to come
her way so she held her hand up and continued. "Before you give me the
'abandoning needy people' lecture, I can assure we shall be doing no such
thing. Aid workers are already on their way to the areas where they are most
needed and I shall be sending additional military engineers and medical,
nursing and health professional staff to flesh out those we already have in
the area. There are more than enough NATO and other forces there to 'police'
and 'ensure safety'. If they see the need to do that then let them, we do
not need to get involved."
Mouth still agog, her defence advisor bowed his head in what could have been
seen as a naughty-puppy-caught-in-the-act gesture. It was then that the
Minister for Foreign Affairs piped up. "And what of the Embassy in Romania?
We're currently still operating and I am anxious about any withdrawal and
the impact it would have on any citizens we have out there."
"Continue as we are for now," Elena shrugged a little. "Until we meet
opposition from the Romanian Government I see no need to change the status
quo." (OOC: Nothing ever came of the last post about us delaying out
departure so thought I'd test the water again hehe)
"Very good, I shall inform the Ambassador. Shall we return more staff?"
"Not for the time being, I'd rather keep people out there to a minimum."
Elena turned around to face the last person in the room, her PA. "Now, I've
come to a decision that may well make me unpopular following our statement
on the Canada-China incident. But I intend to reschedule my visit out there.
See if you can get a window in my schedule that matches up with that of
McColl's and tell Diego he's coming, he's not getting out of this one.
Obviously make it after the President's visit but other than that I'm open
to whatever suits."
(OOC: Sorry so short but thought I should get something out pre-WR and not
sure if I'll have time to finish JPs tonight)
