[War_ooc] And so it goes

Years back when I first joined WAR, I was looking for something
outside the usual, and in all honesty, WAR's as unique as they come.
When I joined, realism was the rule. And while that's fine as it's
own thing, it does limit things. Unless one's playing one of the
major superpowers, there's really not much to do other than pretty
much pick your nose and go along with what the superpowers do since
those are the only ones that really matter. Hell, I even resurrected
the Order of Dracul in Romania and was doing impalings of crime lords
which didn't even so much as draw a 'is this a joke' on the OOC.
As seems the pattern when things went stagnant, we discussed what
direction we take with WAR since going the realism route pretty much
was a lather-rinse-repeat of there's some posting, scads of bickering
on the OOC until posting stops and then we hit the reset button.
We decided on easing back on the realism. We set the time for in the
future and agreed that post quality will decide success of actions.
This would allow writers to explore new avenues while keeping out the
bizzare of clone harems and Gundam robots.
That rule's not really been tested this restart until I chose to have
Romania drop out of the major world affairs to work on itself while
pointing out the order of things is broken and skewed, and does need
to be fixed in light of the current world situation. Since that post,
I have had to deal with offlist, plenty of insistence that this sort
of thing wasn't covered when we agreed upon the post quality rule,
offers of how the WR writeup should be with riots in the streets and
assassination attempts, rigged elections along with just about every
action up to and possibly armed troops coming in to make Romania
conform to order. All things going above and beyond rationality with
choosing a difficult course of action and knowing there would be some
sanctions.
I've had to defend offlist each post made since the Deal with it post
as if this was a doctorial thesis and a career depended on the good
grade.
No one should have to go through this.
And those who didn't get successes they wanted due to post quality
have been complaining about the failures while complaining further
about the exploring new avenues.
It's as if when we agreed upon post quality as a rule, it really
wasn't meant and was only said to just make us feel good that we
decided something for a direction when all that's really wanted is the
old status quo.
The simming community is not what it was years ago during the golden
period. The ones who still continue to sim are in this for fun, and
when it's not fun, they're going to leave.
For me, it's not fun to mostly sit on the sidelines with my chosen
country nor have to rigorously defend an action taken in a post while
having it bandied about of quashing this before it's given much if any
chance of being explored while reading WRs that pretty much ignore
what I've posted or established.
In a twisted way, Antanasia's point reverberates more than just simple
posts. Unless one's writing for one of the superpowers, don't expect
anyone to look at what your country has established and just continue
to keep it in the perspective of our current day or worse.
Not helping either is while I was elected a GM, repeatedly over the
past weeks or so, I've been treated as if it was just a title and not
a position. Decisions have been made without all three GMs input, and
if the others are informed of them, it's been more of a 'it's been
decided and you're only being told as an after thought'. Many of
these decisions are out and out bad policy and catering to those who
scream the loudest rather than what is best for the game be it short
term or long. Ideas put forth to help better the game and it's
running are dismissed out of hand.
I've been a GM and AGM in too many games over the years to know that
this sort of discord is not healthy or conducive for a sim.
I don't know if it's favouritism or what at this point, and with
everything said at this point, I've progressed to just not caring as
well as not feeling like dealing with the petty stuff. This is a sim,
something done for fun and shouldn't be treated as if it were weighty
matters of life or death. As a former 911 emergency dispatch
operator, I more than know the difference.
So, with that said, so long, goodbye and good luck.
